Blow The Budget Takes Another Step Forward

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, Blow The Budget had her second run in the Claymore Racing colours. She finished fifth after jumping the last just off the leaders and looking like she was in a winning position. She jumped well and ran a consistent race; however, she just ran out of steam towards the tail end of the race, eventually finishing 5th. It was her first run on softer ground, having had four previous runs on good-soft and good ground. The ground was soft-heavy in places, which was a contributing factor to the result, which was below expectations. A step up in trip with a slower pace will suit her a lot more going forward. Although she finished 5th, she was only 4 and 1/2L behind the eventual winner, Ozzy Cosmos, as opposed to Kelso, where she was 20L behind the winner, WyeNot.

Paul McIvor (Bloodstock Agent): "Although she only finished fifth as opposed to third, this was a step up on what she achieved at Kelso, and there are definite reasons to believe she can improve again another day. She came through to challenge in the straight, having every chance as she jumped the second last upsides, but as at Kelso, albeit not to the same extent, she couldn’t quite see things out with the ground, perhaps a little more testing than ideal.”
